23/01/2010 (Rosie): Too "Right"

Do you ever have days were something comes out technically right, but you still feel like something is missing? I was having one of those days when I looked at the pictures I had taken. The white balance was spot on, the exposure was good, the framing was fairly good, they weren't blurry, there wasn't any camera shake, no grainy-ness. And yet, when I looked at them, I felt... emotionally unattached. They didn't have a personality, they were a list of boxes that were ticked instead of a creative process.

Which is why I am sharing this photo:

I had to bring the exposure up on the computer to show the inside of the culvert thing-y, but that made the metal in the sun too bright. A bit later, while working on a photo for my other blog, I figured out how to up the exposure on only a part of the photo. When I came back to this one, I realized I didn't want to "fix" it.

I think there may be a deeper meaning behind this, but since I'm not entirely sure about it, I'm just gonna leave it here.

08/01/2010 (Rosie): Nobody's Listening

I've been feeling very pensive lately, bordering on melancholy, and I think my pictures are starting to reflect this.

So often I feel like I'm on the brink of saying something, but there is nobody listening. Not in day to day conversation, but like big picture say something. I know it is probably just the teenager in me acting up, but I have a right to be angsty sometimes!

Anyways, I found myself in my school's auditorium today, and couldn't resist snapping this shot. To be standing on the stage and looking out at the empty seats, well, that's how I've been feeling lately.

07/02/2010 (Rosie): The Climb to Uncertainty

After Findlay's amazing photos of a book on fire, I thought that maybe I should step up my game a bit and go for something more than a quick picture of my back pack. So at lunch today I set out, camera in hand, in search of something interesting and vaguely artistic to photograph.

I have been toying with the idea of stairs for a while, ever since Amelia of Ambiguous Alliterative Abomination posted this series of photos. I thought about it, considered locations, colours, ect, for ages. Then today I took this picture:

I don't know why I decided to take a picture of these secluded stairs that lead to the english wing of my school, but I did. Then when I imported them on to the computer, it seemed natural to up the exposure. When I was looking at the finished picture, I figured it all out.

This picture pretty much embodies what I feel about life, and especially school right now. I'm always climbing, always working harder, putting in more effort, achieving more, but I don't know why. I can't figure out what it's all leading to. I don't know why I'm spending years of my life working towards a diploma, but to what end?
